Thanks for ruining my morning, Franklin Covey Planner

Here's an idea...when someone says "make your five year plan" like Rbf did, back in 2003...

DO:
- Not do it
- Throw it away in haste (if you ignored my previous instruction)
- Be realistic. That means don't put shit like "try out for motab," not that I put that or anything

DON'T:
- Even think about putting "Audition for Motab"
- Write the date. This saves you from adding five years to that timestamp and recognizing your failure as a human down the road in the year 2010 when you haven't accomplished any of those things except for:

1.) Finish School
2.) Have no more speeding tickets
3.) Still be best friends with Dev (Yeah, that one wasn't in my handwriting. I suspect I left my trusty FC planner sitting open on the hostess stand at Passages Restaurant and my now Yale grad friend {was a server in the restaurant at the time...guess HIS five year plan looked a little different} stumbled upon it, snooped through it, and added to it.) Thanks Devan, because that's actually one of the things I accomplished.
4.) Own a dog

Things I didn't accomplish:
Pay off car (does "wreck it and give it back to Rbf" count? It's still in the Mingo family, if that further validates)
Travel to Europe. No excuses.
Finish a Marathon. (I have bad knees, so I will never do that...so I just count the past eight months as its own kind of sick twisted marathon, and may create an "honorary accomplishment" list)
Mardi Gras (I went to Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro. Mardi Gras is a ticker tape parade. Judge rules? I [honorary] DID IT).
I also wrote that I needed to have an adventure. I noted "Like move to New Orleans or Hawaii." Um. I'm guessing that I'd have had quite the adventure in N.O. This was written in 2003.

Honorary accomplishments:
- The one about the Marathon
- Adventure: Drive semi trucks
- Adventure: Take my promo girl ninja skills from tech shows and golf tournaments to Minor Leage baseball; maintain enough gall to still mock other girls just like me
- The one about Mardi Gras
- Write in a blog for like five years
- Carry/lug/heft a freaking bookcase up the stairs to my new apartment all by myself like some sort of army-ant freak
- Survive off of Iceberg shakes and Crown Burgers for 8 months, call it "My waist and butt meet 12 pounds of supporting local business"
- Stay friends with an ex-spouse
- Have a little tenure at a great job during a recession
- Fly in small planes, get it on with pilot later
- Work with service dogs
- Learn to drive a riding lawn mower
- Learn to sew
- Live with boy roommates. Bonus points that all three of them were dirty truckers.

Motab auditioning is overrated. Mostly because I can't sing worth crap. Also overrated: thumbing through your old Franklin Covey planner to see if there's anything good left in there. There's not.

Thanks, Reboyfriend, for always always asking me what my current five-year-plan was. You stirred up every single one I ever wrote down, but oh how you did it with style.

{Editor's note: I was in the UofU Women's choir at the time and truly loved it and grew from it. So it DID make a little sense at the time. It's not like I have delusions of grandeur. Anymore.}

I cringe at the lists I have made. I don't do them anymore, becuase of exactly what you are talking about. It just ends up making me feel like a total failure when I don't live up to it, even if I grew out of the idea.

Today I happened upon some old e-mails from 10 years ago. OMG! I'm not even the same person anymore and the things I talked about being so sure about just made me laugh out loud and then feel really embarassed for that stupid person back then. I'm sure ten years from now I'll still be feeling sorry for my stupidity today.

Loads of fun!

Did you put NOLA down at that time, because you knew me and I was so awesome back then, that you thought you wanted to live around kick a** people like me? Good thing you didn't, because you would've gone through Katrina and that was a B****! Love you:)

As a long time and current Franklin Covey employee, I and my company apologize. I love you, and in it's own weird little way, so does your planner. (I just revealed my super inner planner nerdism to you, that has to be worth something)

Okay, so I know you said NOT to make a five year plan list, but as a list person, and having never made a five year plan list, I feel the compulsion to do it. Especially now, since I am done with school and need to set some goals so that I will accomplish something besides laundry and changing diapers over the next few years. I will try to be realistic. I have pretty low expectations for myself these days.

Also, congrats on your honorary accomplishments. Those are cooler than what was on your original list anyway. Miss you Kir. Be back on the 26th.

I think you know this, but I heart you.

I also went through a brief time when I thought MoTab was a great idea for me. Then I listened to myself sing. Um....yeah.
