Annie scores at shower, and I come full circle, apparently, from 2001.

I had the weirdest day yesterday. First, I threw baby shower for sacred long-awaited heaven-child (pictures later, because self-obsessing is more important). Then I went to hang out with Skip and describe to her, in full detail, What's New With The Really Tight End, just like 2001 was yesterday.

Because in 8 years, it's really possible for things to not change at all.

A bunch of our old roommates hooked up to wax nostalgic about the days we lived at La Mirage. And about who met which guy from which series of poo-ball attacks. And what stupid shit Kir had forgotten she said about ReBF going to BYU to find and marry some dance major. (Petty insecurities are always awesome, especially when couched in what someone's major is).

I was greeted with these old familiar faces, and then, at that magical and pivotal moment when I was asked what was new with me, I really had nothing. Nothing new. "Well, I'm sortof dating [name of Reboyfriend] in a non-definable, indefinite type of pseudo-relationship." I left out the part about him still actually having The Red Civic, which he all but bought for me that year. It's a miracle I didn't somehow come in wearing a Ruby Tuesday work shirt and a stick-straight/over-pomaded/beveled/streaked SLC Olympic-era hairdo. Complaining about OChem homework.

I could have left out the fact that I graduated college, got married and divorced with someone else, and lost all contact with Reboyfriend for more than three years. Because what was important was that, by some freak glitch in the universe, I had just weeks earlier, unearthed this old fling that had been somehow preserved in its original pristine form just in time for Vertical Horizon songs to now start playing again, all the time in grocery stores, and for random, spontaneous, roommate reunions in which everyone is with the same guy she was with last time we talked.

Skip and I left together and did a Wendy's run at midnight. She mentioned something about that one time in a truck stop bathroom with Reboyfriend when I passed out. When someone else remembers stuff like that, stuff that you kept under lock and key during your marriage to someone else, memories that you never revisitied...it makes you feel like you weren't crazy, that you didn't imagine it, and that yes, it was as funny as you remembered.

I can now remember why that time of my life still possesses me, emotionally. I woke up this morning, and couldn't remember whether I was 19 or 27, whether I was married to SH or dating ReBF, whether I was at Dixie or the U or the Cube Farm, and I couldn't recall ANY of what I had done the past few nights. It didn't come back to me very quickly, either. I had to think hard...REALLY hard, to even recollect where I was. The reminiscing did something to my head. And I dug it.

In other news, Annie liked her quilt (phew) and the shower was fun. I took some pictures, most of which were of food (I was hungry). I'll post some later when I have permission from everyone in them.

Don't tell anyone, but your quilt is my favorite baby thing ever. It's fabric love. (Remind me to text you the dirty joke I almost included here, but wisely chose against.) I loved my shower! It was freaking awesome and I am still spazzing over it all. Score indeed. I officially have THE most spoiled baby alive, and she hasn't even seen all her loot yet. Thank you for such an amazing day.
